The Faculty of Medicine of Université Laval seeks a research professor in the field of health and aging, who will join the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (http://www.fmed.ulaval.ca/site_fac/faculte/departements/medecine-sociale...). This appointment is a regular full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Full Professor, with 80 % protected time for research activities. The appointed candidate will become part of the Centre d’excellence sur le vieillissement de Québec (CEVQ) research group, which is part of the Centre de Recherche du CHU de Québec (area of research: Population health and optimal health care practices). The CEVQ is a supraregional centre of expertise on aging for the entire Laval University territory. Its missions include specialized geriatric care, training, research as well as prevention and promotion. Research activities conducted at the CEVQ center exclusively on clinical, epidemiological, evaluative, psychosocial and organisational issues in the field of aging, and the center has no laboratories for basic (fundamental) research.
Job description
The appointed professor will:
• Develop his or her own research program in the field of health and aging, in collaboration with the CEVQ’s research team;
• Apply for research grants and, if applicable, for research salary support to funding agencies in order to support his or her research activities;
• Become actively involved in the supervision of graduate and postgraduate students;
• Participate in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the programs offered by the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (DMSP);
• Contribute to the promotion and development of research on aging within the DMSP, the Faculty of Medicine, as well as in collaboration with other Université Laval faculties and institutions associated with the Laval University network;
• Disseminate knowledge and results of his or her research through presentations, publications and other knowledge transfer activities.
Selection criterias
Applicants are expected to:
• Hold a doctorate (PhD) in epidemiology or another related field;
• Present a strong research productivity, as shown by publications, grants, graduate students supervised;
• Possess a relevant experience of research on aging;
• Demonstrate the ability to develop research programs and obtain research funds from funding agencies;
• Show an interest for academic teaching as well as for supervision of graduate students;
• Show an aptitude for teamwork;
• Have the ability to communicate in both French and English.
