Western University’s Aging and Engaging in Communities Research Lab (EngAGE) invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate (PDA). A PhD in Gerontology, Occupational Science, Rehabilitation Science, Sociology, Human Geography or other relevant discipline is required at the time of appointment, with completion no earlier than September 1, 2021. The position is available effective April 1, 2023 (alternate start date may be negotiated) and will be for an initial period of one year with potential to renew for up to 2 additional years. EngAGE (www.engageresearch.ca) is a dynamic, community-focused training environment that develops highly skilled researchers. We aim to understand and promote age-inclusive communities that support social connectedness, community participation, and engagement in everyday activities among older adults. We are housed in the School of Occupational Therapy (www.uwo.ca/fhs/ot/), a department focused on well-being, social inclusion, and social justice.
The appointment involves full-time scholarship and research, in-person, in London, Ontario. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Carri Hand, interdisciplinary faculty members, older adults, and community research partners. The PDA will be involved in helping manage projects, interacting with collaborators, supervising and mentoring student research assistants, leading coding and data collection and management activities, conducting qualitative and spatial analyses, leading and collaborating on academic journal articles, contributing to knowledge mobilization (reports, presentations, social media, outreach), and contributing to grant writing. The Postdoctoral Associate will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity and encourages teamwork.
This position includes funding for conference travel related to the study as well as time for the PDA to pursue independent research goals relevant to the postdoctoral project focus.
The ideal candidate will have:
• Excellent written and oral communication in English
• Excellent time management, project management and organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Research experience with older adults and with community development or participatory action research
• Experience in qualitative methods, including conducting various forms of data collection, facilitating focus groups and/or meetings, and conducting qualitative data analysis.
• Familiarity with geospatial methods will be considered an asset
